Expanding Vocabulary

ThreateningSnowWe Chicagoans share many similarities with the Eskimos, besides our subarctic climates. The Eskimo language, they say, has sixty-two different words for snow. I would venture to bet we Chicagoans have sixty-two words for snow as well. Very few of them, however, are appropriate for use in polite company.

My take on Baggy Pants Theory

baggypantstheoryUsually when you see these guys with the extreme low-rider baggy pants, it is two fifth graders, standing one on the other’s shoulders, most likely sneaking into an R rated movie.

Vote Sprud in ’15

billsprudBill Sprud, the often beleaguered mayor of Meow Town, Flip Top Island, held a press conference today to announce he is running for president, asking everyone to ‘Vote Sprud in ’15!’

A journalist quickly pointed out that the next presidential elections will be in November 2016.

“That’s why I’m running in ’15,” Sprud replied, “Early worm gets the bird.”

Ten Scenes from MEOWING

OK! This is turning into a rather large project now, here are all TEN of them. I have a few more up my sleeve still, so stay tuned.

Each of these is a scene from a story from my collection, MEOWING ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE, which is available absolutely everywhere, in paperback and ebook. Folks who have read it and still maintain the ability to communicate are giving it rave reviews! Saying things like, “This looks like a real book!” and “Stay crunchy in milk!”

All the cool kids are doing it!!! Get your copy today!!!

FLY

Oh, Mrs. Williams, if you could only see me now, a couple thousand feet above the east coast, swirling around, twisting in the clouds and probably about to die. I hope there’s something soft down there to land on…

This is a piece that sat unfinished for a long, long time. The pencil sketch, and pen and ink were completed in 2010, I believe, and some smatterings of color were added a little at a time. A black and white version of this work appears in Meowing on the Answering Machine.
It was such a chore to get the first parts of this done, I was still under some sort of curse that made producing any visual artworks a tedious and dreadful undertaking for a good decade or two.
That weight, that dread, has lifted, but I can’t say why or where it went. But, I’m glad it left. Most of the coloring for this piece over the last three or four days.

A Stolen Pause

‘At night I might climb up the sign above the bowling alley or the bars announcing birthday specials and the drink of the day and when to show up for karaoke. I stuffed their transparent tiles into my coat pocket.’ ~MEOWING ON THE ANSWERING MACHINE, ‘The Comma Sutra’
